Come all ye

>A busy morning today, hosting students from RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) who were looking at our whaling logs for their maritime history course. They enjoyed the artifacts more, I think (scrimshaw, harpoons, ship models, and a narwhal tusk). The prof. had each student heft our harpoon gun, since it weighs a good 25 pounds. It was good for them to handle the stuff and to read the original logs, as it brings the subject into much sharper focus. One log contained a love letter from a sailor to his wife, and was quite touching.
