Historic Book Person of the Week #2: Richard Jones, aka Jhones, aka Johnes

They're my gloves. Mine!

According to McKerrow’s Dictionary of Printers and Booksellers…1557-1640, Jones was a printer and bookseller in London between 1564 and 1602:

“On one or two occasions he was fined for offences such as stitching books and printing and publishing privileged books; but on the whole he appears to have been an orderly member [of the Company of Stationers]. Throughout the thirty-eight years of his business life he dealt largely in ballads, and he also printed and published much other curious literature, most of it of a popular character.”
