Whist Booklet

Part of the Whist Collection presented to the library in 1917 by the widow of Mr. Walter Hammond Barney, this leather bound booklet is a snapshot of a whist game in play. The left side of the booklet shows each of the directions (N, E, S, W) representing a player and his or her hand (twelve slots for each card). The right side of the booklet represents each of the 13 rounds or “tricks” played, with the slot in the far right holding the winning card.

PPL’s whist collection also includes books on whist, compilations of rules with notes, and accounts of whist tournaments.
