Those vermin in the press!

Here is the trail of the only type of bookworm we do NOT like at the library. Fortunately the perpetrator is nowhere to be found.

About the paper itself, the following is taken from Printers and Printing in Providence, 1762-1907, pp. 21-22:

The Providence Phoenix was begun May 11, 1802, to help the organization of the Democratic-Republican party, under the leadership of Thomas Jefferson . . . From its starting until the spring of 1873 that party was never without an organ in Providence.” The titles under which this paper was published were:
The Providence Phoenix (1802-1807)
The Phenix (1807)
The Columbian Phenix (1808-1810)
The Columbian Phenix, or Providence Patriot (1810-1813)
The Providence Patriot Columbian Phenix (1814-1832)
