Ye Olde Catalogue

> Extending my previous post into library history, I found our published catalogue (or finding list) for 1891. Unfortunately there is no index for call numbers, so I can’t find the specific book which had been overdue, but it’s fun to see what was available to the citizens of Providence 117 years ago. According to the Introductory Note, it “comprises an alphabetical arrangement of the books belonging to the Library from the beginning.” Three previous lists were published, in 1880, 1882, and 1887, which this work incorporated. It is organized alphabetically by author and title (except in the case of biographies, which are included by subject).
