In honor of the Library’s Board meeting today, I thought I’d post a picture evocative of my feelings as I left the room. I hasten to add that this is not a commentary–merely an expression of sympathy for those who have to deal with library matters at that level.
This image is from the 1907 (London) edition of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, illustrated by Arthur Rackham. This edition was limited to 1,130 numbered copies, of which ours is number 266. Published one hundred years ago, our copy was given to the Library by Edith Wetmore in 1955 along with some 1,900 children’s books spanning 500 years and 20 languages.
