Strike up the band!


Today I have been sifting through boxes and boxes of a truly amazing collection–none of them books! The image shown here is of a 7-inch record which comes from the David Wallace Reeves collection of band music. Reeves (1838-1900) was from New York, but became the conductor of the American Band in Providence, Rhode Island in 1866. He wrote over 100 marches for the band and made it one of the most prestigious groups of its time. I hope to do more with this collection soon–just getting it out of boxes and into some sort of order would be a start!!
